The scuba refresher course consists of one pool session and one 2 tank dive trip.  Each dive trip consists of 2 locations with a one dive at each. All of this is completed with an instructor.  All scuba gear rental is included. This is an excellent way to start to feel comfortable underwater again.

The Scuba Refresher Course or the Scuba Skills Update is for divers that have not gone scuba diving in more than 12-24 months.  When this amount of time has passed it a requirement of scuba diving certification agencies around the world that a refresher course or scuba skills update is completed. The refresher course is conducted under the direction of a scuba instructor and will cover the core scuba diving skills.  Included in this course is both a pool training component as well as two ocean dives.

The class will start with a conversation to discuss your past training and go over any areas of concern you may have. After a basic knowledge refresher on diving you will assemble your gear with the assistance of your scuba instructor.  After a predive safety check the pool training will begin.  The purpose of the pool training is to familiarize yourself again with your scuba equipment, your diving skills, and some of emergency procedures and prevention tactics.  All skills are completed in the pool which makes the ocean dive just a fun dive with an underwater gps (a.k.a. your scuba instructor!).

After the pool training session is completed the course will break for lunch.

The afternoon boat check-in time is 12:30pm.  Once on the boat your instructor will be able to assist with gear assembly and pre-dive safety checks. This is a great time to talk about your upcoming dives, ask questions. You will have many opportunities to learn tips and tricks throughout the day.  Your afternoon dives will each be 1 hour.  Both dives will be completed on the Reefs off Key Largo. These are amazing locations for your first ocean dives in a while. The warm water and great visibility result in a low stress awesome diving environment.

Upon completion of this course your scuba diving certification will be in active status.  You will be able to board dive charters, get air fills, rent gear, purchase gear, and dive again! The dive shop or your instructor can stamp your log book validating your refresher training.

The refresher course can be customized to meet each divers specific skill level. If there is something specific you would like to get out of this course let us know in advance so we can be prepared and do our best to make that happen.

When do I need a Refresher course?

Refresher courses are required for all participants who have not been diving in 12 months or more.

Can I still take a Refresher course if I’ve been diving in the last year?

Sure! Some people book Refresher courses to review dive skills before upcoming travel, or in preparation of a scuba certificate advancement.

How long are the dives in the ocean?

The length of the dive will be determined by several factors one of which is how long you want to remain underwater. The longest dive completed in this course would be approx 55 minutes.

How deep will the water be?

The depth will vary depending on the exact location. Generally the boat will sit in about 25 feet of water on the majority of reef dive sites. Diver should expect depths while diving to be 25-40 feet on shallow reef dives.

Do I have to go into the pool before diving in the ocean?

Yes. Our program and vast majority of Try Scuba programs require divers to first start in the pool. The controlled and relaxed environment of a pool is the most enjoyable way to learn how to scuba dive.

Will I see any sharks on the dives?

Hopefully! The great thing about diving in the Florida Keys is the water visibility is great. Therefore everyone underwater can see everyone else (sharks included).  In the event that you bump into some sharks there is no need to worry. Keep your hands to yourself and the sharks do not bother you.  Scared of sharks? We have the secret cure. Call us!
